With him, 11 former RAB men have so far given confessional statements in the cases over the incident in April this year.

Narayanganj District Lawyers Association Sakhawat Hossain said Amin, who was deputed to RAB when the incident happened, gave confessional statement in the court of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate HM Shafiqul Islam on Thursday.

Seven men, including Narayanganj City councilor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on Apr 27. Their bodies were found floating on the Shitalakhyya River several days later.

He said Amin ‘confessed to his involvement in the incident’. He was sent to jail after recording of the statement.

Amin fled his workplace at Narayanganj RAB following the retrieval of bodies but was arrested in Bauphal in Patuakhali on Oct 7 by detectives.

The investigation officer interrogated him for 24 days in four phases of remand granted by the court.

Sakhawat Hossain said: “This arrested member of RAB is a very strong man. He was grilled in three phases of remand in this case. He confessed to his involvement in the seven murders during the fourth-phase remand.”

Amin, who drove a car on which the victims were carried, gave a detailed account of the incident divulging who kidnapped and killed them and dumped the bodies.
