Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said police arrested six kidnappers while rescuing the businessman from a house on Thursday.

Meanwhile, five Benapole-based C&F agents’ associations, who stopped work after Hobi’s abduction, resumed functioning after the rescue.

Hobi, 58, went missing after arriving in Dhaka in a Biman Bangladesh flight on Tuesday.

His family filed a general diary with Motijheel police over his going missing.

DB official Islam said at a press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters that miscreants asked Hobi to come to Dhaka offering some businesses only to extort ransom from him.

His captors demanded Tk 6 million in ransom and tortured him for the money.

He said police arrested six ‘abductors’ including two women with a pistol.

They are Md Abdul Manna Palash, 32, GM Jubair Ahmed, 22, Md Mojibur Rahman, 44, Mahbubur Rahman Jishan, 17, Jannatul Ferdous Jyotsna, 32, and Bristi Akter, 17.

Islam said Palash was the mastermind of the abduction and others were his associates.

Detectives said Palash peddled arms from Benapole to Dhaka.
