46 held in Noakhali to ‘prevent violence’

Law enforcing agencies have detained 46 people in Noakhali to prevent any untoward incident in the aftermath of the war crimes verdict for Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.

Police Superintendent Md Eliyas Sharif said the raids had been conducted in various parts of the region since Tuesday night.
Workers of the Jamaat and its student front, the Islami Chhatra Shibir, accused in various cases, were among the detained, he said.
Sharif told bdnews24.com, "In order to keep the situation under control after the verdict, three platoons of BGB and four platoons of RAB have been deployed in Companyganj, Senbagh, Sonaimuri, Chatkhil and Zila Sadar.”
In addition, the entire district have been brought under DB Police and Armed Police surveillance, he said.
