‘Tough security before Nizami verdict’

The government is bracing for heightened security measures across Bangladesh before Motiur Rahman Nizami’s war crimes verdict is announced on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said all necessary action will be taken to contain the situation.
Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nizami is charged with 16 counts of war crimes including murder, loot, rape, incitement, planning, abetment and killing of intellectuals.
So far, shutdowns have been called on every verdict day for top Jamaat leaders charged with crimes against humanity.
Massive violence ensued in the capital and regions across the country after ICT-1 sentenced executive council member Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death on Feb 28, 2013.
