He was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shooting a car driver in both legs over a personal vendetta and then staging a gun seizure drama.
Dhaka Metropolita Magistrate Maruf Hossain on Thursday, however, turned down the seven-day remand appeal of the police.
Lawyer Mallik Shafi Uddin of the defence protested the remand plea.
But general registrar of Court Police Humayun Kabir told bdnews24.com there was no bail appeal for the convict.
After SI Hossain shot Shah Alam, a car driver, in both legs last Friday night, allegations surfaced that the police officer had done so intentionally and staged a false seizure of firearm from the latter in an act of cover-up.
The Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station SI was taken into custody on Wednesday and a case was filed against him.
The station’s OC Abdul Momin was also withdrawn.
Alam’s brother Golam Mostofa told bdnews24.com that he had filed the case against SI Hossain at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, accusing him of trying to murder his younger brother.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon zone Deputy Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said, “I have investigated the allegations personally and found evidence that the whole episode had been staged.”
The remand appeal stated that police already had several complaints against the injured driver and informer Shah Alam and that was why SI Anwar Hossain needed to be taken into remand for interrogation to unearth the actual incident.
Shah is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka's National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
