Abul Hossain, 70, and Jahed Hossain Sobuj, 35, were admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, popularly known as Pangu Hospital, after the incident on Tuesday morning.

According to police, Abul Hossain is a former assistant director of the Investment Board and he owns the house at South Madartek’s Baganbari area.

His wife and household worker were present when the attack took place.

The assailants went up to the victims’ home on the third floor after tying up the building’s security guard, said Sobujbagh Police OC Rafikul Islam. “On the way they also bolted the other flats from outside.”

“They broke into the house and hacked the father and son with sharp weapons.”

The two were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital from where they were later shifted to Pangu Hospital.

“Jahed Hossain Sobuj used to work in IFIC Bank once. He left his job few months ago. We’ve found out that he is separated from his wife. We’re looking into the matter.”

The victims’ family could not name anyone who could be behind the attack, the OC said hoping that talking to the two injured men would help unravelling the motive.
