"There should be a separate commission to appoint teachers. Measures should be taken for this," she said on Sunday during her visit to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

She, however, said the move could entail problems. "A change leads to a lot of complications."

During a meeting with ministry officials, Minister Mustafizur Rahman raised the issue of low pay for primary school teachers.

The prime minister said the problem would be solved once a new pay commission was formed.

Emphasising primary education, Hasina said: "The base of building up a society is laid here. The future leaders will grow in to what they will be taught."
She told the meeting that teachers’ training was crucial, as it was "important to cope up with a changing world".
Hasina said primary education was her government's top priority.
"This is because education is the key to reducing poverty," she added.
