Two foreign ships detained at Mongla

Following court orders, Mongla Port Authority has detained two foreign ships for not paying the dues to fuel suppliers.

Port Authority Chairman Commodore Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan said the ships were detained on Tuesday and Thursday following orders of the High Court in separate cases of financial transactions.

The ships -- Cook Islander flag carrier MV Milimus and Liberian flag carrier MV Asian Prosperity -- are now anchored at Harbaria area in the port with 37,500 tonnes of urea fertilisers imported by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
Milimus arrived at Mongla Port on Oct 10 and Asian Prosperity on Thursday.
Port Authority Chairman Rahman told bdnews24.com on Friday night that MV Milimus was held up on Tuesday after receiving the copy of the court order.
The court order on Asian Prosperity reached the port authorities on Wednesday and the ship arrived at the port on Thursday.
MV Milimus’ local agent Faisal Ahmed told bdnews24.com that Friends Multi Traders Company of Chittagong had supplied fuel worth $214,752 to the ship on Apr 21 this year, but the ship authorities did not clear the dues.
Friends Multi Traders Company official Nazmul Islam moved the High Court over the matter.
Details of the case against Asian Prosperity could not be known immediately.
