Friday morning's accident on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway at Gharinda left 12 others injured, Elenga police outpost in-charge Sergeant Kamruzzman Raj said.
A Dhaka-bound bus from Bhrungamari and a goods-laden truck collided head on at around 4am, killing three people on the spot.
Two other died in hospital, he said.
Two of the dead have been identified as Moti Mia, 55, of Kurigram's Phulbarhi Upazila and Nur Hossain, 35, of Kurigram Sadar Upazila.
The injured, hailing from Kurigram and Lalmonirhat, have been admitted to the Tangail Medical College and Hospital.
One of them has been shifted to the Dhaka's National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, police said.
