Police said Shahnaz admitted during primary interrogation that she killed Dudu Miah while he slept with a ‘bonti’ (a curved kitchen knife) on Eid-ul-Azha night and buried the body in their own house.

She said she suspected Miah was having an affair, the reason why, she thought, he frequently battered her and gave her no money.

Raujan Police Station OC Pradip Das said: "Dudu Miah and Shahnaz had a fight on the night of Eid-ul-Azha. When Miah fell asleep, Shahnaz hacked him with a ‘bonti’and buried his body at home.”

Police said as the 32-year-old Miah could not be found at home, his sister questioned Shahnaz and found her explanation unconvincing.

She informed the police, who turned up at the house at Uttarsatta village under Chittagong's Raujan Upazila, and dug the body up on Thursday, 10 days after the man went missing.

Das said Miah, father of two sons and two daughters, used to run a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw for a living.

He said a neighbour, Dablu, was held for questioning over the incident.
