Police have arrested one Rubel Hossain alias Khorshed Alam with gunshot wounds. A firearm was found in his possession, said OC Rahman adding the other injured was a passer-by.

He was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said the hospital's police outpost' inspector Mozammel Haque.

"A police patrol on the Miprur-Cantonment flyover signalled an autorickshaw to stop, when the three youths inside it opened fire. Rubel was shot when the police opened fire," said OC Rahman.

A pistol loaded with two rounds was found with him, while the other two managed to escape, he added. "Rubel is not a hijacker. Based on the information until now, he is an extremist. We are looking in to the matter."
