National Museum World Civilisation Gallery renovated

The World Civilisation Gallery at the National Museum has reopened with new artefacts and archival materials from four nations.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor announced the opening of the renovated gallery in a ceremony at the Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium on Wednesday.

The gallery, containing archaeological and cultural artefacts from China, Korea, Iran and Switzerland, was damaged in a fire on Mar 30, though the exhibits were unharmed.

The gallery, which had been temporarily shut, was opened to the public on Wednesday after a revamp.

A copy of Switzerland’s recognition of independent Bangladesh, a letter by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and some books have been added to the gallery. These are kept at the Switzerland corner in gallery 44.

Seven new artefacts, token of Korean National Folk Museum, have been added to the Korean Corner.

The Chinese Embassy provided a touch screen monitor and multimedia set for the Chinese Corner that demonstrates Chinese cultural traditions.

A Bengali and an English copy of the epic Shahnama by Persian poet Ferdousi, 10 artefacts containing poet Hafiz's verses with portraits have been kept at the Iranian Corner.

Korean ambassador in Bangladesh Lee Yun Young, Switzerland's Chargé d'affaires Caroline Trautweiler, cultural counsellor of Iran Embassy Asgar Khosroabadi, Second Secretary of Chinese Embassy Huang Li were present among others at the event.
