Before OC Hosne Ara’s removal, 19 police personnel of the same police station had been suspended on Sunday.

Nishrul Arif, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur Division, said he had received a copy of Ara’s transfer order on Wednesday.

The move comes after one Md Nasir Hossain was killed by hoodlums, who were harassing his cousin at Bhashantek.

The 25-year-old was badly beaten on Thursday after an altercation with the miscreants, who, police said, regularly taunted his cousin.

He later died of his injuries at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Allegations that police ‘had good relations’ with the murderers led to the suspension of one sub-inspector, five assistant sub-inspectors and 14 constables.

Bhashantek Police Inspector Golam Nabi was also withdrawn.

Police then said they arrested a suspect, one Sharif Hossain aka ‘Chakka’, from Tangail on Tuesday. ‘Chakka’ was named as an accused in the murder case.

Deputy Commissioner Arif said a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Jashim Udddin was investigating the 19 policemen. They would submit their report with seven working days.

Meanwhile, Kadamtali Police Inspector Abul Kalam Azad will replace Hosne Ara as the Bhashantek OC.
