It is alleged that LA section Surveyor Shahidul Islam Murad was supposed to receive the money as bribe from the man, Md Ilias.

The district administration has already formed a probe team to investigate the matter.

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah said Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Abul Hossain would look into the alleged involvement of LA section employees with the suspected ‘bribe’.

Police had beefed up security in the court area following a threat that the Chittagong court building, which also houses the divisional commissioner and deputy commissioner offices, would be blown up.

The law enforcers found Tk 7.79 million in the possession of Ilias while conducting a search in front of the annex building of the lawyers on Tuesday.

The police filed a case against Ilias with the Kotwali Police Station over the money haul.

A police officer posted in the court area said they heard that the ‘money was going to the district administration’s LA section as bribe’.

Surveyor Murad fled the area after the money seizure.

Police could not extract any information from Ilias on Murad’s involvement in the ‘bribe’ during primary interrogation.

The division commissioner told bdnews24.com: “There are allegations against most of the employees who have long been working in the LA section. They have been shifted to other places.”

Of the transferred employees, 10 are surveyors and two Kanungos.

The divisional commissioner said three others, including Murad, had been transferred on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, police sought five-day remand for Ilias to interrogate him regarding the source and destination of the money.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Nawrin Akter Kakon sent him to jail setting Thursday for the remand hearing.

Kotawali Police Station SI Md Kamruzzaman said Ilias, son of Mujibur Rahman, hailed from Akhaura Upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
