Cox's Bazar Detective Police OC Manzur Alam said that the encounter took place early morning at the Dariyanagar area.

One Jaker Hossain, 28, who the police claimed to be a yaba trader, was shot in the leg during the exchange of fires.

He has been admitted to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

Two police constables were also injured, said OC Alam. "Jaker’s name is in the list of yaba traders prepared by the home ministry. A detective police team raided Dariyanagar area on a tip-off. As soon as they reached the area, yaba traders fired at them forcing police to retaliate."

Hossain was detained with gunshot wounds after the shootout, said the police officer.

A thousand pieces of yaba tablets, a fire arm and some ammunition have been recovered from the spot, he added.
