Prof Lutfor Rahman, Chief Cardiac Surgeon of LabAid Cardiac Hospital, told bdnews24.com on Monday that the bypass surgery was “successful”.
A team that he led conducted ‘beating heart surgery’ for more than two hours in which his heart pumps were not stopped during surgery.
“It’s a very high-tech procedure,” Prof Rahman said. “He is fully alert now.”
He, however, said they would closely observe the poet for the next three days.
The popular poet was rushed to the hospital on Sunday evening where doctors found a major artery blocked after angiogram.
Prof Baren Chakraborty who was taking care of the poet told bdnews24.com that they chose bypass procedure as one of his main arteries was blocked where angioplasty (inserting ring by ballooning) was not a viable option.
