The popular poet was rushed to the LabAid Hospital at about 7:30pm on Sunday where doctors found a major artery blocked after angiogram.
Prof Baren Chakraborty who is taking care of the poet told bdnews24.com that he had informed the poet’s family that he would need a bypass surgery.
“We are ready to do it tomorrow (Monday),” he said.
Dr Chakraborty explained that the left main coronary artery was found blocked.
“Academically it is not viable to do angioplasty (inserting ring by ballooning) in that case. Bypass is our first priority,” he said.
He, however, said the poet was in “stable condition” under the intensive cardiac care.
