Sajeda Khatun Shaju, 50, was attacked at her parent’s house in Bagutia village on Monday night, Shailkupa Police SI Emdad Hossain said.

The miscreants hacked her son Zinnah Alam, 30, with sharp weapons. He was admitted at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

Sajeda held a press conference at Jhenaidah Press Club on Sunday, where she claimed former Abaipur Union Chairman Rafikul Islam was her husband and the father of her son.

She told reporters she was fighting a legal battle in the court.

“The mother and son were asleep when 10-12 assailants broke into the house around 11:30 pm and tried to take them away with their eyes blindfolded and mouth gagged,” said SI Emdad.

He said the neighbours began screaming after finding out.

That provoked the attackers to hack at Zinnah. Villagers rushed him to the hospital later.

But Sajeda was found dead in a banana grove, said the SI.

“She was suffocated to death and her body was found tied to a banana tree. Police recovered her body and sent it to Jhenaidah morgue.”

SI Emdad said investigations will start soon.
