The US State Department says countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the US in the last five years are declared ineligible for the DV programme.

The annual DV programme is very popular among the Bangladeshis as it is the easiest route to migrate to US.

India, China and Pakistan are also in the list of ineligible countries.

A computer-generated, random drawing chooses the lucky ones for the Diversity Visas.

The visas are distributed among six geographic regions, with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration.

The state department says no visas go to nationals of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the past five years.
No single country may receive more than seven percent of the available Diversity Visas in any single year, it says.
DV programme makes visas available to persons meeting “the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements”.
Other than Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and China, the other countries declared ineligible for DV visas this year are Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except northern Ireland) and its dependent territories and Vietnam
Citizens of other countries can apply online from Oct 1 to Nov 3.
