A similar incident took place earlier this month in the same channel.

Elephant Cement Factory’s MV Nayansri-3 sank after its bottom was punctured around 9am Tuesday at Pashur Channel’s Joymonighol area.

Harbour Master Mohammad Aktaruzzaman said the vessel, carrying at least 650 tonnes of clinkers, was on its way to the factory near Mongla Port.
However, there were no casualties as the crew managed to swim ashore, he said.
He also said ship movement in the channel was not affected.
The port’s salvage ship MV Panna is already trying to locate the sunken vessel, he said.
On Sept 12, another cargo ship, MV Hajera-1 carrying at least 600 tonnes of clinker, sank on Pashur Channel's Harbaria's buoy No. 2 area.
The ship was located eight hours after it sank that day, but Mongla Port Authority is still yet to salvage it even though 18 days have passed.
