The alleged mastermind 'Amin' is still untraced.

Mia, who hails from Patuakhali and is a mason by profession, was found alive in a bag floating on the river on Sept 18. He was taken to the Mitford hospital for treatment.

Speaking to bdnews24.com after leaving hospital a week later, he said he lived at a quarter in Keraniganj and kept Tk 20,000 with his fellow mason Amin as he did not have a safe.

He said he asked for the money a week before the incident as he planned to go home.

Amin took him to Jinjira Bazar on Sept 17 to return him the money from another person.

"Around 11pm, several youths showed up there and started beating me up," Mia claimed. "I blacked out after I was hit in the head."

The following day, locals found a large white plastic sack floating on the river. They found Mia barely alive inside it.

Complications over case
The victim's father Jalaluddin filed a case with Keraniganj police on Sept 22 over the incident.
He claimed he was "harassed" due to "administrative complexity" while filing the case.
"I was sent to Keraniganj Police Station when I approached Chawkbazar police to lodge the case. But Keraniganj police told me that the case would have to be filed at Chawkbazar station," Jalaluddin said.
The case's investigation officer Shah Alam tried to explain: "The water from which Sohel Mia was rescued falls under Kamrangirchar police's jurisdiction but the river bank is under Chawkbazar police.
"A case over the incident has to be filed with either Chawkbazar or Kamrangirchar police since the incident started in Agannagar area, which is under South Keraniganj police's jurisdiction."
The Keraniganj police officer claimed Mia's relatives did not come to them at first and that they registered the case without delay.
Chawkbazar police OC Azizul Haq claimed the victim's relatives did not come to his station for lodging a case.
Asked about the investigation progress, Shah Alam said there were many quarters in Agannagar where Mia lived.
"No-one could surely say that one Amin lived there," he said hoping they would make a breakthrough once they went to the spot with Sohel Mia.
