Ban Ki-moon also said he hoped that the progress would continue when Hasina called on him at the UN headquarters in New York on Saturday morning (local time) before she addressed the 69th UN General Assembly.

Briefing the reporters after the meeting, her Media Advisor Iqban Sobhan Chowdhury quoted the UN secretary general as lauding Bangladesh's achievements in education sector.

He also congratulated Bangladesh and the prime minister on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh's membership to the UN.

Extolling the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to the UN peacekeeping missions, the UN secretary-general requested Hasina to send more helicopters, Chowdhury said.

He quoted the prime minister as saying in reply, "We will try to send more helicopters."

She also thanked Ban Ki-moon for the successful programme to mark the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh's membership to the UN.
