Daily Mail and Huffington Post reported that Mahfuz Huq, 47, ran away to Bangladesh after being accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend on Aug 9, 1989.

He used to be a math teacher at English medium school International School of Dhaka, known as Asif Haque.

Mahfuz was arrested in India in February 2011 when he arrived in New Delhi to take part in a table tennis training camp.

Last July, he was returned to Indiana, USA, where he killed 19-year-old Todd Kelley at the victim's home. He was 22 at that time.

Mahfuz struggled to return to Bangladesh while detained in India.

Steuben County Superior Court Judge William Fee handed down Mahfuz his sentence on Monday.

A remorseful Mahfuz cried before a packed courtroom and made a plea agreement.

Kelley's body was found by his girlfriend, Christine Mutzfeld, who had been in a previous relationship with Mahfuz.
Court documents said cigarette butts at the murder scene indicated Mahfuz waited for Kelley outside Kelley's home.
Two weeks after the crime he was charged with murder.
The murder had caused sensation in the United States 25 years ago. It was featured on the television programmes 'Unsolved Mysteries' and 'America's Most Wanted.'
