Bangladesh will chair the UN Credentials Committee

Bangladesh has been made the chair of the UN Credentials Committee for the 69th General Assembly and the 29th Special Session.

Eight out of the nine member countries  in the committee -- China, US, Russia, Jamaica, Namibia, Senegal and Brazil -- backed  Bangladesh's nomination.

Bangladesh's Permanent Representative at the UN AKA Momen was handed over the responsibilities as the chairman at a meeting of the credentials committee on Sept 19. Bangladesh Mission's Counsellor Mohammad Mahmuduzzaman will be the coordinator of the body.

The UN Credentials Committee is formed ahead of the General Assembly every year. It consists of nine members, who are appointed by the General Assembly on the proposal of its President.

The Committee reports to the Assembly on the credentials of representatives.
