Six suspects remanded over Moghbazar murders

A Dhaka court has remanded six suspects of the triple murder at Moghbazar into police custody for questioning.

They are Al Amin, 25, Saifulla Siyam, 24, Ramzan Ali, 20, Rubel Miah alias Sunny, 25, Maruf Hossain, 26 and Shafin Laskar, whose age was not available.

Ramna Police SI Mizanur Rahman sought remand for the suspects at Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Islam granted police permission to grill Siyam, Ali, Sunny and Maruf Hossain for three days in two cases each.

The others Al Amin and Shafin Laskar will be interrogated for three days in the case over possessing weapons.

The six were arrested by RAB in raids on parts of Munshiganj and Dhaka on Friday. They were found in possession two pistols and three knives, RAB said.

Ranu Akhter Brishty, Billal Hossain and ‘Munna’ were shot dead at Moghbazar’s Sonalibagh on the night of Aug 28. Brishti’s brother ‘Shamim’ aka Kalachan has filed a murder case accusing 15.

The assailants entered the home owned by Brishty to carry out the killings. Billal and Munna were her tenants.

Police arrested main suspect local crime boss Shah Alam Khandaker aka Kala Babu and five others. Kala Babu was later killed in a suspected extrajudicial killing by police.
