Bangladesh Embassy deputy chief MA Muhith said quoting the White House that Ziauddin, along with his family, met the US president at the Oval Office at 9am local time Thursday.

He delivered greetings from President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Obama, and, on behalf of the prime minister, invited him to travel to Bangladesh.

US President Obama welcomed the ambassador and assured him of every assistance in carrying out his duties.

He hoped that the ties between the two nations will be strengthened during Ziauddin’s stay. They also spoke about many bilateral issues.

Obama told Ziauddin that the United States would continue to work together with Bangladesh to reach common goals and improve bilateral ties.

Ziauddin said the US was a tested, reliable and loyal partner in Bangladesh’s development and progress.

Although Ziauddin has been carrying out the duties of former ambassador Akramul Qader since Aug 15, the submission of the credentials officially commences his term.
The retired diplomat has served in many positions both at home and abroad.
He had served as the Bangladesh ambassador to Italy. He also served as the chief of protocol of the ministry of foreign affairs.
After assuming power, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him the ambassador-at-large with the rank of state minister in November 2009.
She retained him in this position after coming to power for the second consecutive time in the January 5 national election.
