To call Md Sohel lucky will be an understatement, as not many people dumped in a river bundled in a sack are rescued alive.

As luck would have it, he was rescued from a plastic bag seen floating in Buriganga River on Thursday morning.

It was, however, not clear what had led to his perilous state.

Police believe he was dumped in the Buriganga with the intention to kill him.

Sohel hails from Keraniganj.

Locals said, seeing a large plastic bag floating in the river on Thursday morning they dragged it up the river bank.

To their surprise they found a youth inside on opening the bag. Initially, they took him for dead only to find him still breathing.

Siddik Hossain, a truck driver, recounted: “At first it seemed like a dead body, but we noticed after a while that he was breathing. Seeing him alive, we rushed him to the Mitford Hospital. He gained consciousness there.”
Chawkbazar police OC Azizul Haque said Sohel was very ill.
“He managed to say that his name was Sohel and that he hailed from Keranganj.
“We’ll know who dumped him once he recovers,” he told bdnews24.com.
Sohel is currently admitted to the hospital’s casualty ward.
Emergency ward doctor Rashedul Islam said the youth was not hit with any sharp weapons.
“His body only bears marks of assault,” Islam said.
