Twelve fire-fighting units tamed the flames at Gulshan Tower after an hour’s frantic effort on Thursday evening.

The fire originated on the ground floor of the 13-storey building at around 6pm, fire service official Bhajan Sarkar said.

Gulshan police OC Rafiqul Islam said many people had rushed to the roof as the smoke engulfed the building.

There has been no immediate report of casualties.

Fire fighters could not immediately say what caused the fire and how much damage had been done.

The building near the Gulshan roundabout houses business and offices of different agencies.
