And the difference between the numbers is no less than a staggering 1 million.
Replying to a question in Parliament on Sunday, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said, "There are over 4.5 million workers employed in the garment industry."
On the same day, State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu, replying to another question, put the number at 3.5 million.
Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of RMG products after China. Cheap labour makes it an attractive destination for foreign buyers.
Tofail told Parliament 81 percent of the export earnings came from the apparel sector.
