2-day remand for 7 Shibir men held over CU bus attack

A Chittagong court has granted police a two-day remand to question seven activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir arrested in connection with an attack on a bus, carrying faculty members of Chittagong University (CU).

Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Slaeh Mohammed Nasim has granted the remand on Sunday after Hatahazari police pleaded for seven days.

Chittagong court police's Inspector Anu Mong Marma told bdnews24.com apart from the seven out of 11 arrestees, hearing on remand plea for four others will take place on Monday.

Those placed on remand are - Mostafa Kamal, Imam Hossain, Md Yusuf, Towhidul Islam, Kamrul Barakat, Mamun Qazi and Shah Alam.

Shah Alam is a CU staff while the others are the students of various departments of the university.

On Sept 10, 14 people including 11 CU teachers were injured when Shibir activists lobbed bombs and pelted stones at a CU teachers’ bus near Chharharkul area at Hathazari.

Police arrested 25 Shibir men that day from the spot and after raiding CU campus. They arrested eight others on Friday and Saturday.

On the night of the attack, police and CU authorities filed two separate cases at Hathazari Police station, accusing 95 Shibir leaders and activists.
