He inspected the area on Thursday and told reporters, “I came here 10 days ago and set a deadline for a committee to fix this place. They have kept their word.”

His ministry formed a committee on Aug 20 to supervise the emergency repairs of the roads adjacent to the under-construction Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover.

“I’m not saying people aren’t suffering. But it has come down to a tolerable level,” Quader said.

He said the repair work would continue with Eid-ul-Azha and the Durga Puja coming up.

“I will call on commuters to bear with this short-term problem for the sake of a long-term benefit,” he added.

Quader said the two main portions of the flyover would be complete by June 2015.

The roads around Moghbazar and Malibagh damaged by the construction work have been temporarily repaired by laying down bricks in the potholes.

Asked whether such a makeshift repair would last, the minister replied, “This is a continuous process. If it doesn’t last, someone will have to answer for it.”

He said the ministry was considering closing the construction during Eid but no decision had been made.
