“Her popularity was pan south Asia. RIP (rest in peace) her soul,”

Harsh Vardhan tweeted on Wednesday.

“Sad that my Dhaka visit has coincided with the death of the great singer Feroza Begum today”.

Vardhan is attending WHO meetings in Dhaka in his first visit as minister.

The great singer died on Tuesday night at the age of 84 after enthralling fans for seven decades.

As condolence poured in from across Bangladesh, India also joined to mourn the death of the Nazrul Sangeet legend.

Its High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran condoled the death and said the cultural world of the sub-continent has lost “one of its greatest icons”.

“She will always be remembered for her pioneering and legendary contribution to the field of music and the arts,” he said on Wednesday.

The High Commissioner Saran said she ruled the hearts of music lovers not only in Bangladesh but also in India.
