The 45-year old former RAB-11 member was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital early Saturday.

Dhaka Central Jail's Superintendent Farman Ali said Belal had been admitted to the DMCH with "self-inflicted injury".

Belal reportedly gave a confessional statement on Sept 2 detailing his involvement in the abduction and murder of seven men, including City councillor Nazrul Islam, in Narayanganj in April.

"His condition is serious," DMCH's Deputy Registrar Dr Syed Ali Ahsan Asif told bdnews24.com.

It is unclear whether he tried to cut his throat or was a victim of an assault.

Belal, shown arrested on Aug 27 in the multiple murder case, was in Narayanganj jail.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Zakaria said the RAB-11 member tried to cut his throat with a blade at Thursday midnight.
He was initially taken to the Narayanganj General Hospital but was transferred to the Dhaka Central Jail for further treatment as his condition had deteriorated.
According to the prosecution, Belal had confessed to taking part in the crime at the order of his superiors.
Councillor Nazrul's family alleged that the elite police unit had taken Tk 60 million in bribe from prime accused Nur Hossain to carry out the abductions and murders.
