A four-member police team, including Badda police OC MA Jalil, went to the DU vice-chancellor's office on Sunday morning.

The others were Dhaka City police's Raman zone Assistant Deputy Commissioner Shibli Noman, Assistant Commissioner Anowar Hossain and Shahbagh station's OC Sirajul Islam.

Noman skirted journalists' question on the offering of an apology.

"We had a misunderstanding," he said. "We went to the university to dispel that misunderstanding."

Sociology department Assistant Professor Samina Lutfa came under attack when she went to Badda for a research work and expressed solidarity with the protesting workers on Aug 6.
Police assaulted her even though she identified herself.
DU teachers and students protested against the attack and demanded punishment of the policemen involved.
The university's teachers' association, too, had condemned the incident.
Samina Lutfa contested police officer Noman's statement.
"[Badda police OC] MA Jalil has admitted to his fault in a letter to Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique," she said.
"He wrote that he regretted the incident and promised that such incidents won't recur," Lutfa told bdnews24.com.
