He claims the number of such incidents was actually not as much as has been reported.
"I am not saying that such incidents of abduction are not happening. But the number is not as high as has been claimed," he told reporters at his office on Sunday.
Many relatives of the victims of such incidents gathered at Dhaka from across the country on Saturday to attend a national convention organised by the Fundamental Rights Preservation Committee on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.
They shared their experiences with the audience at the National Press Club premises.
The BNP and other political parties blame the government for these disappearances, although the government has steadfastly denied it.
According to the BNP, more than 65 of its leaders and activists across the country have gone missing during the regime of the Awami League-led government.
Referring to such claims on Sunday, Kamal said: "I am aware of some incident where the so called victims went to hiding themselves and made up a story of having gone missing. It was clear later when those people were found."
He also brushed aside allegations of RAB personnel being involved in such incidents.
"This is a wrong assumption. Allegation of RAB being involved comes up whenever any such incident occurs."
Farooqi murder
The minister said that the investigation into the murder of Islami Front leader and TV show host Nurul Islam Farooqi was going 'slow and steady' to ensure it does not take a 'wrong turn'.
"We do not want the probe going wrong. We are going about it slowly to reveal the truth about the murder of Farooqi," Kamal said while speaking to reporters on Sunday.
He said he did not believe Farooqi had enemies.
According to Kamal, the Aug 27 killing of Farooqi was a 'well planned' operation.
Police have already arrested three persons in connection with the murder.
The Islami Front, however, claimed that the Jamaat-e-Islami was behind the killing. Its leaders told a rally in Dhaka on Sunday that the government is trying to protect the 'real killers'.
Moghbazar triple murder
Speaking on the progress of the Aug 28 shooting incident probe, Kamal said: "The prime suspect Kala Babu is notorious. He is involved with the murder of an Ansar member earlier."
He said the police are searching for the perpetrators of the murder of three at Dhaka's Moghbazar.
"Kala Babu and his accomplices will be brought to book."
A day after Farooqi was murdered, miscreants shot dead three persons at a house in Moghbazar.
A case was filed by the victims' relatives accusing 15 and police already arrested three of them.
Despite a ruling party leader's comments about a panic gripping people over back-to-back murders, the state minister said the law and order situation was 'normal'.
"Unfortunately, both of the murders happened in my constituency...things like these happen in every country."
