Shamim alias Kala Chan, the brother of one of the deceased 'Brishty' alias 'Ranu', filed the case around 11pm on Friday, naming 15 people, Ramna police Sub-Inspector Nasir Uddin Kabir told bdnews24.com.

The names of the accused include Kala Babu, Faisal Ahmed Rony, 'Shahdat', 'Raju', 'Topu', 'Sohel', 'Arif', 'Maruf', 'Billal', 'Thandu', 'Siraj', 'Picchi Rony' and 'Jony'.

According to the case details, Kala Babu had been trying to extort money from Kala Chan following a dispute over possession of a land.

Babu and his gang shot Ranu and the others dead as the money was not paid, it said.

Kala Chan is the General Secretary of ruling Awami League's Maghbazar Railway unit.

On Thursday night, a group of unknown assailants entered a house in Sonalibagh and shot dead three people, Ranu, 30, tenants ‘Munna’, 22, and ‘Belal’, 20.

Ranu’s 18-year old brother ‘Hridoy’ was left wounded.

The family immediately blamed local "criminal" Kala Babu, saying he had been demanding money for some time.

Police, however, believe the murders were results of a dispute over possession of a land encroached from Bangladesh Railway.

Locals said Kala Chan was in control of the land. Ranu had built tin-shed rooms there and rent them out.

Kala Babu was a contender for the possession of the land, they said.

Local Juba League unit President Abdul Khalek had told bdnews24.com that Kala Chan and Kala Babu had an ongoing conflict over the possession of the land.

On Friday, police detained and questioned two aunts of Kala Babu about the triple murders.

Ramna zone's Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Hossain said, "We're interrogating them to find out what they know."
