Habildar Emdadul Haque, Lance Nayek Md Hira Miah and Sepoy Taiyab Ali separately gave confessional statements in three courts of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate on Saturday, prosecution lawyer K M Fazlul Rahman said.

“They claimed their senior officers had ordered them to get involved in the killings,” Rahman said.

Seven men, including Narayanganj City councilor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on Apr 27. Their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhyya River several days later.

Relatives of Islam and Sarkar filed two separate cases over the incident.

Islam’s father-in-law claimed RAB personnel had taken Tk 60 million from the prime suspect Nur Hossain to carry out the crime.

Three former RAB-11 officials – ex-commander Tarek Sayeed Mohamad, Arif Hossain and MM Rana -- have reportedly confessed to their crimes in court.

Six more RAB-11 personnel have given confessional statements as eyewitnesses of the abduction and killings.

Police on Aug 27 arrested five more RAB personnel -- Haque, Radio Operator Arif Hossain, Hira Miah, Lance Nayek Md Jalal and Taiyab -- posted at Narayanganj-11 unit during the sensational murders.

They were sent on eight-day remand in the case filed by Islam’s wife Selina Islam on Wednesday.

Narayanganj police superintendent Khandakar Mohid Uddin said they were making “good progress” in their investigation, but added that more time was needed for the probe.

“So far, 17 people have issued confessional statements in the court.

Of them, five gave confessionary statements while the rest issued statements as witnesses,” he said.
