Md Shamsuzzoha, 45, worked as senior specialist for Grameenphone. He was arrested by Detective Branch (DB) from GP House in Dhaka’s Bhatara on Aug 21.

A court sent him to five days’ remand the following day.

“Shamsuzzoha used Facebook with his own name. He posted a bad comment on the prime minister on his wall,” said DB Additional Deputy-Commissioner Md Ashikur Rahman.

The accused claimed the profile in question was not his but detectives used the password he provided to enter the account, he said.

“The individuals we saw on his friend list didn’t appear very civil either.”

He refused to say why he had decided to slander the prime minister, said the DB official.

Shamsuzzoha told police he had joined the Bangladesh Army in 1990 after passing the 26th BMA Long Course. He became major 10 years after he was commissioned.

He also served in the Rapid Action Battalion’s (RAB) intelligence wing from 2004 to 2008.

He said he left the job on Feb 28, 2011, but police were yet to verify if the major had been sacked or whether he had left voluntarily.

“He said he left his job because of his son’s illness,” said ADC Rahman.

Shamsuzzoha said his wife was a senior secretary, he added.

After retiring, he worked in Robi Axiata before joining Grameenphone in May, 2014.
