Minar, 55 others charged in court with Ekram murder

Local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar and 55 others have been charged in court with the killing of Feni’s Phulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque.

Police on Thursday evening submitted charges in the murder case to the court of Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Khairul Amin.
The charge-sheet also names district Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Adel, Juba League leader Ziaul Alam Mister and Ruti Sohel as main conspirators of the murder, although they have not been arrested.

Police on Thursday evening submitted charges in the murder case to the court of Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Khairul Amin.

The charge-sheet also names district Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Adel, Juba League leader Ziaul Alam Mister and 'Ruti' Sohel as main conspirators of the murder, although they have not been arrested.

Besides Minar, who is the prime suspect, Phulgazi Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Jahid Chowdhury Jihad, Feni MP Nizam Hajari's cousin Abidul Islam Abid are also accused in the murder.

Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam Azad, the investigating officer of the case, said Ekramul Haque, president of AL Phulgazi unit, was killed in a daylight attack at Feni Sadar on May 20. Assailants blocked his car, opened fire on the vehicle and set it ablaze with Ekram trapped inside.

His brother filed a case naming Minar after the murder.

Police and RAB in several drives arrested a total of 31 people including Minar, Abid, Jihad, Feni town's Awami League leader Abdullahil Mahmud Shiblu and Ekram's secretary Belal Hossain Patwari. Some of the weapons used in the murder were also recovered.

Of the accused, 16 have given confessional statements in court.
