Sonali Bank’s ex-DGM, arrested over Hall-Mark scam, dies in jail

Sonali Bank’s former deputy general manager Azizur Rahman, accused in Hall-Mark scam cases, has died in jail.

Dhaka Central Jail Senior Jailor Farman Ali said Rahman died on Sunday evening in the prison cell at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

He was undergoing treatment there.

Ali told bdnews24.com the banker was suffering from chronic ailments including diabetes and heart disease.

Rahman was arrested in October 2012 over Hall-Mark Group’s taking around Tk 25 billion in loans from Sonali Bank’s Ruposhi Bangla branch through fraud.

He was the branch chief at the time.

Rahman, who was suspended following the scam, was accused in all the cases filed by the Anti Corruption Commission and Sonali Bank.
