6 to die for Siddhirganj murder

A court in Narayanganj has sentenced six people to death and one to life imprisonment for killing businessman Rafik Bhuiyan in 2009.

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid announced the verdict on Monday.
Those given the death sentence are ‘Masum’, ‘Swapan’, ‘Nazmul’, ‘Aminul Islam Ashik, Sazzad Alam Dollar and Zakir Hossain. They were each fined Tk 100,000.
‘Nazmul’, ‘Mamun’ and Sazzad Alam were in custody while the rest are absconding.
Another accused, Sadia Akhter, was sentenced to life imprisonment. She has also been fined Tk 50,000.
The judge has ordered the district magistrate to collect the fine and hand it to the victim’s family, said Narayanganj Additional Public Prosecutor MA Rahim.
The killers called Bhuiyan away from his home on Jun 3, 2009. He body was found floating on a lake at Mijmiji the next day, the case details reveal.
His neck had been severed and the limbs tied.
The victim’s brother Ratan Bhuiyan had filed a case of murder, accusing seven people.
Police later filed a charge-sheet accusing the seven of the businessman’s murder.
