Court of the Chittagong's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate finally fixed the date after deferring the hearing nine times at the defendants’ request.

The two accused -- Dr Surman Ali and Dr Zakir Hossain -- who are on bail were present during Sunday's hearing.

Ali is the laparoscopic and collector surgeon at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, while Hossain is a doctor at a private clinic.

According to the case details, the duo performed a surgery on Aminul Islam, a student of a private university, on May 30, 2012 at a Chittagong clinic.

Islam, who continued to suffer pain, went under the knife for a second time but his condition did not improve.

He was later shifted to Kolkata as his condition deteriorated.

There, Apollo Hospital's Radiologist Debashish Dutta performed a surgery on him and removed the needle.

Islam's mother sued Ali and Hossain on Jan 28, 2013. The court ordered Panchlaish police to register Delowara Begum's compliant as a case.

Panchlaish police's Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin pressed charges against the doctors on May 30 last year.

The court scrapped Ali's bail and sent him to jail on June 3 in the case.

It prompted the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and Chittagong doctors to go on an indefinite strike from the next day.

The doctors called off their strike on June 6 after the court ordered Ali's release.
