New executives at Alliance Française de Dhaka

Abdul Majid Chowdhury has been re-elected president and Jowad Hamid Kazi treasurer of Alliance Française de Dhaka for the next three years.

The non-profit organisation that promotes French culture, language in particular, is also referred to as the French Cultural Centre.

An 11-strong executive committee, all of them Bangladeshis enthusiastic about French culture, runs this independent organisation, according to its website.

It maintains close ties with the French embassy in Dhaka.

The annual general meeting held on Thursday elected the 11 executives, most of whom have been re-elected.

The centre in a media statement said the new executives met on Friday and elected their president, vice-president and treasurer.

Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, founder of the elections observer group, JANIPOP, became vice-president, a post created this year.

The president and treasurer are businessmen.

Other executives are Raana Haider, Rifat Rashid, Nadia Samdani, Imroz Hassan Chowdhury, Mofidul Hoque, Shishir Bhattacharja, Md Liaquat Ali Khan, and Md Hissam Khandker.
