Selina Begum, 40, died around 4pm Friday, while her son ‘Anik’, 12, succumbed to his injuries around 12pm at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s burn unit where they had been admitted for treatment, DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said.

Her daughter ‘Popy’, 17, is still being treated at the burn unit.

Quoting doctors, Selina’s cousin Mojibur Rahman said Popy’s condition, with 60 percent burns, was still critical.

A blast inside the drug store owned by one Anwar Hossain at Lal Kha Bazar of Purba Sehachar in the early hours of Aug 18 had brought down shop’s front wall and blew off the store’s shutter.

The explosion had set fire to Selina’s house and left her and her son and daughter severely burnt.

Two others, night guards Abdur Karim, 50 and ‘Barek’, 38, had received minor injuries. They were administered first aid.

Police suspect the explosion was caused by gas accumulated in the sewer.
