The meeting took place at Washington DC on Thursday.

Ziauddin, who has been ambassador-at-large since 2009, replaced Akramul Qader in June this year.

He told Washington’s point person for South Asia that the Sheikh Hasina-led government was working to improve the quality of the people's lives and also to develop friendly relations with neighbouring countries, according to a State Department official.

"The incumbent government has maintained its 'zero-tolerance' policy to uproot militancy in the national, regional and international stage," the official quoted Ziauddin as saying.

His first public appearance after taking over as the ambassador was on the National Mourning Day programme in Washington on Aug 15.

A day earlier, he had presented his credential to Ambassador Peter A Selfridge, Chief of Protocol of the United States.
