Man caught with 36 gold bars at Dhaka airport

Airport customs officials have detained an airline passenger with 36 gold bars, weighing about four kilograms, at Shahjalal International Airport.

“The passenger was detained around noon on Thursday following a tip-off,” said Mainul Haque, Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department.
The detainee Khurshid Alam is a resident of Sitakunda, Chittagong. He arrived at Shahjalal from Dubai.
“The gold bars were found in Khurshid’s luggage.”
Haque also said, “The current market price of the seized gold is estimated to be Tk 20.02 million.”
