Local Awami League activists protested in Old Dhaka on Wednesday against the shooting of Shaheed, the party’s Sutrapur unit general secretary.

Former ward commissioner Shaheed was shot in front of his home around Tuesday midnight. He is under treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Awami League’s central leader Enamul Haque Shamim was recently shot in Dhanmondi. Police have made several arrests in that case. On the other hand, there is no progress in the investigation of Awami League leader Jahangir Alam of Agargaon.

Sutrapur Police Station OC Khalilur Rahman said police had no clue yet to the cause of the attack.
“Police are investigating, but we haven’t made any arrests yet,” he said.
The station’s SI Md Arafatul said no case had been filed till 7pm Wednesday.
Shaheed’s family says the man has no enemies who would try to kill him.
Shaheed, who has two sons and a daughter, is involved in various businesses and owns a warehouse in Shyambazar. His usual haunt is the Farashganj Club.
His niece’s husband Md Shakil told bdnews24.com the family had no idea why this attack took place.
“He did not have any enmity with anyone,” he said.
Shakil was on the motorcycle with Shaheed at the time of the incident.
He said the assailants arrived on a pair of motorcycles and fled immediately after the shooting.
One of Shaheed’s sisters, Ranu, was also hit by a bullet.
Local Awami League activists held a procession and a rally protesting the attack in front of the Victoria Park in the morning.
