He is currently being treated at Dhaka's United Hospital in police custody.

However, his brother-in-law Anowar Hossain has claimed police did not rescue Rahman and his driver Rezaul Haque Sohel who had been missing since May 4.

According to him, several men dumped the duo at Tongi around Monday noon from where Rahman and Sohel came to his Gulshan residence.

He said he had admitted Rahman to the United Hospital afterwards.

Rahman's nephew Abul Hossain said the BNP leader was rescued from Gazipur's Tongi on Monday afternoon without divulging further.
Sunamganj's Superintendent of Police Harun Ur Rashid skirted a question on the matter.
He merely said Rahman had been rescued and that he was being treated at the United Hospital in police custody.
Sunamganj’s Additional SP Hedayatul Islam said Rahman’s driver Sohel was brought there by a police team.
BNP’s Sunamganj chapter convener Rahman, who lives in London with his family, returned home a year ago and was staying at Sunamganj’s Hajiparha.
He and his driver Sohel went missing when going to Sunamganj from Sylhet on May 4.
Rahman’s relative Rabiul Islam lodged a complaint with Sunamganj Sadar police two days later claiming the duo had gone missing.
Since then, the local BNP unit, and also the UK unit, staged protests including general strikes demanding information on their whereabouts.
