Miscreants shot Jessore district Swechchashebok League president Abdul
Mannan several times before slitting his throat to ensure his death, according to witnesses.

Jessore Awami Leageu (AL) held local criminals responsible for the killing.

Police said he was murdered Saturday afternoon at his business unit, Ms. AM Traders, on the town’s Piyari Mohan Road.

Eyewitness ‘Khokon’ told reporters that as soon as Mannan entered his office around 5.30 pm after returning from prayers, two masked assailants shot him from outside.

“When Mannan came out of the office with gunshot wounds, the miscreants slit his throat with sharp objects,” he said, adding four other masked men were positioned on the street.

Jessore Kotowali Police sub-inspector Shahidul Islam said the killers exploded a couple of bombs when locals tried to catch them.

Mannan was rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

“Mannan always stood against criminal activities in his area. That’s why local criminals were agitated over him. This might be the reason for the murder,” AL’s Jessore unit President Ali Reza Raju told reporters.

Police are yet to identify the motive behind the killing, said sub-inspector Islam.
