Sergeant, wife and child killed in road crash

A police sergeant and his wife and child have been killed in a road accident at Chauddagram in Comilla.

Chauddagram Police Station OC Uttam Kumar Chakrabarty said the family of Sergeant Nazrul Islam, 52, met with the accident at around 8 am on Thursday on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Batisa.

The two others who died are Laboni Akter, 35, and ‘Nujhat’, 3.

Nazrul’s two other children and the car driver were injured in the crash.

OC Chakrabarty said Nazrul and his family were returning to Brahmanbaria in a private car after spending their Eid holidays at Chhagalnaiya in Feni.

“The private car turned upside down after crashing through the railing of Basantapur bridge after the driver lost control following a punctured tyre ,” he said.

Sergeant Islam and Nujhat died on the spot.

Laboni was proclaimed dead by the duty doctor at Comilla Medical College Hospital.

At least 30 people died in road mishaps at different places of the country in three days since the Eid .
